The Basics of WinISD: Finding Your Target Volume
Published on May 16, 2026
Volume App is designed to help you figure out the physical dimensions and cut list of your cabinet. But how do you know what volume to aim for? That's where WinISD comes in.
What is WinISD?
WinISD is a free speaker design software for Windows. It allows you to input the Thiele/Small (T/S) parameters of your chosen speaker driver and simulate how it will perform in different box sizes and tunings.
The Basic Workflow
- Enter Driver Data: Input your driver's T/S parameters (Fs, Qts, Vas, etc.) into the database.
- Choose Box Type: Select whether you want a Vented (Ported), Closed (Sealed), or Bandpass enclosure.
- Simulate: WinISD will suggest an optimal volume and tuning frequency. You can adjust these numbers and watch the response curve change in real-time.
Once you have dialed in your perfect response curve, WinISD will give you a Target Volume (e.g., 45 Liters) and a Tuning Frequency (if ported).
Take that Target Volume, bring it over to Volume App, and we'll help you design the perfect physical box to match!
