What is the Golden Ratio?

The Golden Ratio (approximately 0.618 : 1 : 1.618) is a mathematical proportion found throughout nature and classical architecture. In loudspeaker design, applying this ratio to your internal dimensions (Depth : Width : Height) yields a box that looks naturally pleasing to the human eye.

The Acoustic Benefit: Defeating Standing Waves

Aesthetics are great, but the Golden Ratio serves a critical acoustic purpose. When sound bounces between two parallel walls inside a cabinet, it can create a "standing wave"—a resonant peak that muddies your midrange frequencies.

If you build a perfect cube (1:1:1), all three dimensions share the exact same resonant frequency, creating a massive, ugly peak. By using the Golden Ratio, you ensure that the resonant frequency of the Height, Width, and Depth are all mathematically staggered, resulting in a much smoother frequency response.
